Marisa Acocella Marchetto, famed graphic artist, cartoonist for Glamour and The New Yorker, and a proud breast cancer survivor, was the guest speaker at the 4th Annual “Razzle Dazzle Pink!” Luncheon, a local breast cancer awareness event chaired by Robin Mueck. Marchetto is best known as the “Cancer Vixen” from her best-selling book, which is currently being developed into an HBO movie starring Cate Blanchett.
Razzle Dazzle Pink! raised more than $250,000 to benefit the Bobetta Lindig Breast Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center. The luncheon was held on Thursday, October 3 at 11 a.m. at The Westin Houston, Memorial City. More than 620 attendees enjoyed a champagne reception and boutique underwritten by Heritage Texas Properties which featured a “jewelry pull” donated by designer Kendra Scott. ABC 13’s Ilona Carson served as emcee for the event, which honored breast cancer survivor and inaugural co-chair Suzie Johnson. The luncheon featured a tribute to Johnson, a testimonial by 30-year old breast cancer survivor Caroline Brown and culminated with Marchetto’s presentation.
“It is so inspiring to see so many friends, family members, caretakers and survivors here with us today,” said Robin Mueck, luncheon chair and President and ,CEO of Heritage Texas Properties. “I am very honored to be a part of this incredible event with such a remarkable cause and so proud that this year’s Razzle Dazzle Pink! Luncheon is the most successful to date.”
Since its inception in 2010, “Razzle Dazzle Pink!” has generated more than $750,000 to support breast cancer patients and their families. Funds from the luncheon are spent on breast cancer education resources, technological breakthroughs and community outreach programs. Most recently, “Razzle Dazzle Pink!” purchased a second breast tomosynthesis unit for the breast center – a 3-D mammogram technology that improves physicians’ ability to detect smaller tumors at the earliest stages of breast cancer.
“Four years ago, a group of women passionate about breast cancer awareness created this fabulous event,” stated Ileana Treviño, CEO of the Memorial Hermann Foundation. “Our first luncheon had a wonderful robust crowd of 300 plus. In four short years, Razzle Dazzle Pink has more than doubled in size.”
