Bellville is the county seat of Austin County. It is located on Highway 36 North at the junction of FM 529, 1456 and 2429 — about 50 miles west of Houston.
Brenham is the home of Blue Bell Ice Cream and Blinn College. Nearby is the recreational facility at Lake Somerville and the original capital of Texas at Independence.
La Grange, which is French for "the Meadows," is the county seat for Fayette County. The city features several historical landmarks -- including an 1891 J. Riley Gordon Courthouse, the Muster Oak - a famous Texas tree, and the Faison House - built in the 1840s. Come and enjoy the rich German and Czech heritage of La Grange.
Round Top, just 20 minutes west of Brenham, is an area referred to by some as the “Antique Trail” and by others as the “Foothills of the Hill Country.” An area where natural beauty is enhanced by gems like the Festival Hill Institute music conservatory, the University of Texas' facility at Historic Winedale, and the historic collection of pioneer homes at Henkel Square. And of course, you can always stop by Royers Cafe on the "Square" for a bite.
