Made up of just two streets, Nantucket
and Potomac, and bordered by Woodway and Westheimer to the north
and south, Westhaven Estates was established in the 1950s as a single-family
home neighborhood nestled between Briargrove and Tanglewood and across
from the Houston Country Club.
However, in the late '70s, prominent developers began transforming
this single-family subdivision into a premiere neighborhood of patio
homes and townhouses. Large, upscale homes were built on zero lot
lines to provide for less outside maintenance and larger square footage
within. There are currently more than 830 residences, with even more
expected as development continues and lots are subdivided to make
way for new townhomes and patio homes that replace the few original
homes left.
New construction patio home prices run the gamut from the high $400,000s
up into the high $700,000s. Older ones start in the $200,000s and
go up, depending upon location and size. Townhomes are priced slightly
lower, beginning in the $100,000s and up into the high $500,000s.
In Post Oak Estates, directly to the east, made up exclusively of
older and smaller condominiums and townhomes, prices are more modest
still.
Deed restrictions prohibit commercial businesses in Westhaven Estates,
but full-service shopping centers featuring high-quality food markets,
restaurants, pharmacies, coffee bars, bakeries, and health clubs,
as well as park areas, fountains, walking and jogging trails, thrive
on the edge of this quiet and secluded neighborhood.
Located only eight miles west of downtown Houston and one and one-half
miles from the famed Galleria and Uptown District, residents enjoy
easy, quick connections to major freeways including I-610 (West Loop)
and US 59 (Southwest Freeway).
Schools serving Westhaven Estates are the highly rated Briargrove
Elementary School, Grady Middle School and Lee High School. However,
considering the high density living that is the hallmark of the neighborhood,
Westhaven Estates attracts mostly empty nesters and young working
professionals who appreciate its convenient location and carefree,
low-maintenance lifestyle, rather than families with children. |
