Braeswood Place

The seven real estate subdivisions collectively known as Braeswood Place were developed in the late 1940s with California Ranch-style homes of brick, stone, wood or shingle. The area encompasses Braes Heights, Ayrshire, and several smaller subdivisions under the umbrella of the Braeswood Place Homeowners Association. The neighborhoods share services that include a constable patrol.

Braeswood Place is convenient to the Texas Medical Center, Greenway Plaza and the bike trail along Brays Bayou. Boundaries run from Bellaire Boulevard to the north and Braeswood to the south, with Sewanee to the east and the railroad tracks to the west.

A significant number of original Braeswood Place homes have been renovated or removed altogether in favor of newer, larger homes. In many instances, the residents themselves have elected to build a new home on their existing home site because they love their neighborhood and location. Also, lot sizes in Braeswood Place are generally bigger than those in neighboring Bellaire or West University.

Between 2000 and 2005, Braeswood Place home owners raised more than $500,000 to renovate Karl Young Park with new playground equipment, drainage, and landscaping. This type of grass-roots effort led the Stella Link Redevelopment Association to scoop up property adjacent to Ayrshire, between Pershing Middle School and Mark Twain Elementary, and develop a multi-million dollar recreational / educational corridor that includes Helen’s Park, a Sheltering Arms Senior Service Center; a public library; and a YMCA.
