Whoever said, “If you do what you love and love what you do, success will follow,” must have had Don Ennis in mind.
Don has lived on or near Lake McQueeney for most of his life. Yet, in early childhood, he was not particularly athletic and couldn’t water ski. Through sheer tenacity (a character trait that has served him well) and lots of practice, he ultimately overcame those limits to become a National and International Water Skiing Champion.
After graduating from the University of Texas, Don worked as an insurance agent, as well as in advertising and marketing. Still, the lure of the water eventually drew him back to water skiing. He began by working with Club Med, then returned to Lake McQueeney as a ski instructor for a local lodge, before finally starting his own business, Ski Masters of Texas, 19 years ago. Don is a USA Water Ski certified instructor and a Boating Safety Instructor for the State of Texas.
Through life on the Lake, he has come to know every inch of it – as well as the land and properties that surround it. He’s lived through floods and knows which areas are flood prone. He also knows every neighborhood around the lake and most of the residents who live there.
Sensing this, his ski clients kept asking him about homes that might be available. At first, he referred them to area Realtors and would later find out they had bought a property. His “Aha” moment came after one such sale when he thought, “Why not become a Realtor and get paid for my waterfront expertise.” The rest, as they say, is history.
Licensed since 2005, and working as a team with his wife, Julie, Don has become a multi-million dollar producer particularly targeting ski clients who are interested in a home on Lake McQueeney. Stand outs because their combined ski and real estate operations are so unique, showing property by water as well as by land, they’ve built an impeccable reputation with the ski school and as Realtors.
Relentless in his mission to teach others to ski, Don is equally driven in fulfilling his duties as a Realtor. He and Julie are results oriented and always strive to do the “right thing.” They believe they have a continuing obligation to their clients and put great importance on integrity and customer service.
Thanks to his Club Med experience, while not fluent, Don can speak “ski language” in Spanish, French, and German; and, as a former teacher and editor at Austin’s Texas School for the Deaf, he knows sign language and can teach deaf students to ski. Over the last seven years, he’s become equally fluent in “real estate.”
